Exciting News In The Treatment Of Prostate Cancer

According to the most recent studies, about 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lives and approximately 1 in 39 men will die from prostate cancer.

This makes prostate cancer one of the deadliest diseases on the planet.

And while it is often survivable, the truth is prostate cancer is treated like any other cancer..its forms of radiation, chemo, and other drug therapies.

In attempt to discover new treatment options, researchers at the University of Texas Austin have discovered that a blend of 3 different chemicals derived directly from plants might actually hold promising curative properties.

Their research regarding this prospective treatment was so revolutionary that the University wrote in their newsletter that it might allow people with prostate cancer to starve the disease with what they eat for dinner.

The substances the researchers used were:

  • Ursolic acid from apple peels
  • Curcumin from turmeric
  • Resveratrol from red grapes

Now you’re likely already familiar with curcumin and resveratrol.

Curcumin/turmeric is often touted as one of nature’s most powerful anti-inflammatory/anti-cancer agents

And resveratrol is known to be one of the world’s strongest antioxidants.

Ursolic acid, which comes from apple peels, is not as well known but seems to have some remarkable cancer stopping properties in its own right.

The interesting thing about this study was how thorough and robust it was.

To determine that these plant based chemicals would help fight prostate cancer, the researchers ran a wide number of plant-based chemicals through a rigorous screening process.

The process intended to select the best chemicals to help fight cancer.

They identified that these 3 chemicals were the strongest cancer fighters, and after doing that, they took a mouse with prostate cancer and made sure its diet consisted heavily of these kinds of chemicals and kept them on that diet while adjusting the levels of the chemicals in a series of ways.

What they discovered is that all combinations of these chemicals helped to shrink the size of the prostate tumor in the mouse.

The way it works was simple.

These 3 chemicals essentially starved the cancer cell to death.

As explained in their paper:

“Combining ursolic acid with either curcumin or resveratrol prevents cancer cells from gobbling something that they need to grow, glutamine. This is a neat solution: blocking the uptake of a nutrient needed by prostate cancer cells with nutrients that are commonly in the human diet."

Obviously I caution anyone reading this to understand that a diet filled with apples, grapes, and turmeric isn’t enough to rid the world of prostate cancer.

What this study does reveal is how powerful plant based nutrients can be for for boosting health.

Perhaps we’ll be able to find out how to harness the powers of these fruits and use them as an ultimate cancer fighter.

Only time will tell.
