Scary Warning for This Year’s Flu Shot

Flu Shots Aren’t What You Think They Are…

Every single flu season, all you ever hear is, “You need to get your flu shot!”

It’s as if you’re being shamed into getting your flu shot, and if you don’t then you’re a public menace to society.

Personally, I don’t really worry about the flu all that much. If you want to know why, take a look at my article on the subject.

And while I’m not necessarily going to discourage you from getting a flu shot, I think it’s important you remain informed on the flu shot…especially with what the CDC has just admitted.

Here’s what you need to know.

Unfortunately for the CDC, they’ve got to come clean about a major downfall regarding this year’s flu shot they don’t want to make.

According to the federal agency, they’ve got some startling news about this year’s flu shot.

CDC’s Warning about The Flu Shot

This year’s flu shot is actually expected to be far less effective than they predicted it to be.

This coming on the heels of an admission last year where they had to confess the same thing.

That’s not good…

Their predictions are that the vaccine will only be able to effectively fight the new, dominant flu strain (H3N2) about 18% of the time.

What does that mean?

Basically, getting a flu shot won’t really do all that much to help protect you.

Meaning there is a greater chance than in recent years, if you get the flu shot, you’re still going to get the flu.

Perhaps the most startling news is how ineffective the shot is against the flu in young children.

It’s been shown that in children who are two to eight years old the overall effectiveness rate is a staggering 15%, one of the lowest effectiveness rates ever.

Officials are worried that these protection rates aren’t enough to help the people who the shots are being given to.

Also this:

It is a matter of concern for experts and health officials, who think that low protection level is because the viruses are mutated and appear to be different than that being covered by the vaccine. The choice of strains to be included in the vaccine is made many months before, so that manufacturers get sufficient amount of time to make sufficient amount of vaccines.

It has been found that the flu strain H3N2 that has been circulating was not factored into this season’s vaccine as the decision was already taken in February 2014. But experts affirmed that the new strain of H3N2 was seen for the first time in March 2014 and has become dominant one in September 2014. By that time, it had become too late to be included in the new vaccine.

With last year being one of the worst flu seasons on record, this year's announcement does not bode well for people with compromised immune systems.  Earlier in the year the CDC was confident their new vaccine was going to be quite effective against the flu.

That’s because the effectiveness of the vaccine last year was only 23%. Now that it’s only going to be 18-15, we’re looking at a pretty poor showing.

What does that mean for you?

Just don’t expect a flu shot to be your bulletproof vest.
