A Plant so Powerful It Can Stop Bullets
At some point in your life, you’ve likely heard of something referred to as being “bulletproof.”
There’s bulletproof glass, bulletproof vests, you might have even heard of bulletproof coffee (coffee with grassfed butter instead of cream).
The term bulletproof means that something is so powerful it can deflect harmful “bullets” when they’re shot at it.
If you think the title of this article is misleading, let me explain.
There’s an herb that’s been used for thousands of years that has been known to deflect some of the more harmful ”bullets” found in nature.
These bullets include stress, fatigue, free-radicals, and other antagonists that can get you sick…or worse…straight-up kill you.
Another way plants can be bulletproof is, if someone shot at you, and you were standing behind a thick tree, well, that’s bulletproof.
But I’m not here to give you tips on how you can carry a tree with you to protect yourself from being mugged.
Instead, I’m going to show you what might be one of the best herbal supplements to take if you want to combat the toll both stress and fatigue can have on your body. Chronic stress, in particular, can have a profound effect on the adrenal glands.
Perhaps you’ve heard of Rhodiola Rosea.
Rhodiola is what’s known as an adaptogen.
Adaptogens are herbs that can help boost the function of your immune system and help keep hormone levels of the adrenal system balanced. They are presently being studied with vigor because of the promise they show in helping the body cope with internal and external stress.
And Rhodiola is one of the most well-known, and highest-functioning adaptogens out there.
What’s So Great About Rhodiola?
Rhodiola Rosea is kind of like a natural bulletproof vest, hence the title.
In particular, it’s a known antioxidant.
The scientific journal, PhytoMedicine, was able to demonstrate its antioxidant properties in several tests. In their experiments, they noted Rhodiola was able to fight oxidative stress, acute and chronic heat shocks, as well as toxic chemical exposure.
As you might already know, oxidative stress is what can lead to many of the more common and more serious conditions that you might end up succumbing to in your life.
The truth is, anything you can do to combat oxidative stress is going to help you enjoy life a little bit more.
The exact way that Rhodiola is able to help the body is beginning to be understood more and more. In terms of antioxidant power, it was found in testing that a compound contained in rhodiola rosea called salidroside was able to protect skin cells from succumbing to oxidative stress.
Now, another way that Rhodiola helps the body is by way of affecting how the adrenal system reacts to stress.
Your body has more than 100 hormones coursing through it.
Some of these hormones affect hunger, and others affect your heart rate.
But all of them are tied together.
When levels of one hormone begin to jump high or dip low, it will then affect the levels of other hormones.
Your body mainly responds to stress with two hormones. Adrenaline and cortisol.
When you experience stress, your adrenaline begins to rise along with cortisol levels.
The rise in both of these hormones for a short amount of time won’t have a negative affect on your health.
But, if you experience a constant “high tide” of both cortisol as well as adrenaline, it can lead to oxidative stress and inflammation.
Likewise, a constant “high tide” of either can also lead to the inability to produce them at a later time because you’ve “used up” your reserves. This is what happens with Adrenal Fatigue.
Rhodiola helps to balance these hormone levels which makes it easier for your body to adapt to stress…(See? Adaptogen, they help you adapt).
What happens then, is you’re less likely to feel rundown and your body won’t suffer the toll of stressful situations that come your way.
All because Rhodiola helps your body remain prepared to deal with stress on a hormonal level.
Some Really Cool Reasons to Take Rhodiola
But that’s not where the awesomeness of Rhodiola ends.
Rhodiola may also help:
- Reduce Irritability
- Prevent early cell death
- Keep heart healthy
- Keep mind healthy
- Boost energy
- Increase cell metabolism
Chinese scientists were studying Rhodiola. What their studies showed was with Rhodiola in a person’s body it actually meant the heart needed less oxygen to function. Additionally, it increased the amount of oxygen that was pushed over to the myocardium. This meant that the heart didn’t need to work nearly as hard, ultimately reducing the strain on the heart and promoting an increase in heart health.
Some other Chinese scientists noticed that Rhodiola actually helps protect cells from low oxygen levels.
Often times in an emergency health situation, many of the body’s cells are deprived of oxygen.
Rhodiola has been shown to help protect them in these instances.
And the good news is Rhodiola doesn’t just have to be used for emergency situations.
If you’re an athlete, those same benefits extend to you as well.
Often in times of exertion your cells are deprived of oxygen. Rhodiola can help boost athletic performance by reducing the strain on your body during times of peak athletic activity.
Rhodiola is even able to help activate the synthesis of ATP (where your body’s energy is derived at the cellular level).
When it does this, it helps stimulate the repair processes on cells during and after exercise. This helps prevent muscle tissue from being damaged during intense exercise.
The truth is, just day-to-day living exposes you to a bunch of “bullets” you’d never expect to encounter.
And with Rhodiola you can help combat many of them.
By the way, it’s important to note some people shouldn’t take Rhodiola.
If you’re manic or suffer from severe depression, I wouldn’t recommend it. Also, in some instances, Rhodiola can cause insomnia. If you start taking Rhodiola and you can’t sleep, you should discontinue use.
And if you’re wondering how much to take, here’s what I recommend.
200 mg to 400 mg a day is the recommended amount of Rhodiola I’d shoot for.
You can go higher or lower, depending on your current health and your health goals.
Try this bulletproof herb. I think you’ll like what it does.
