What is this unbelievable power-packing herb that can help with cellular support and ripple with positive reverberations throughout your body?
A Revered Herb Known As Ashwagandha
It’s sometimes translated as “smelly horse” or more appropriately, “strength of a stallion,” for its ability to restore vigor, energy, and vitality.
Ashwagandha is one of the most esteemed herbs among the approximately 7,500 used in Ayurvedic medicine. It has been the subject of hundreds of studies. As an elite adaptogen, a botanical that helps the body better adapt to stress, it is believed to support and normalize physiological functions all the way down to the cellular level.
It’s astounding that this extraordinarily powerful and versatile herb isn’t as well known as kale or the Kardashians, even though it’s been in use for over 3,000 years.
A stellar, hallmark herb, Ashwagandha can help you not only look and feel energized — but it can also enhance a sense of well-being and may help boost brain function!
Check Out These Studies That Show Its Amazing Ability to Improve Brain Function
One of the traditional uses of Ashwagandha has been to improve memory, sharpen focus and concentration, and promote calm, clear thinking.
1 — A study conducted by Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences of 20 healthy adults showed that compared to a placebo, those receiving ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) had greater improvements in numerous parameters of mental function. Their conclusion, published in Pharmacognosy Research(2014):
“These results suggest that Withania somnifera extract can improve cognitive and psychomotor performance and may, therefore, be a valuable adjunct in the treatment of diseases associated with cognitive impairment.” (1)
2 — Similar results were achieved in a randomized, double-blind study of 50 adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Researchers found that ashwagandha had a noteworthy impact on both memory and cognitive function (Journal of Dietary Supplements, 2017):
“After eight weeks of study, the ashwagandha treatment group demonstrated significant improvements compared with the placebo group in both immediate and general memory …. The treatment group also demonstrated significantly greater improvement in executive function, sustained attention, and information-processing speed ...” (2)
3 — And studies have also shown it may help balance brain neurotransmitters and the stress hormone cortisol and boost glutathione to help fight free radicals and reduce the potential for damage to fragile brain cells.
“In modern research ashwagandha has been found to boost an important antioxidant in the brain called glutathione. Glutathione is an essential component for cell development, enzymatic activity, and for clearing toxins from the body.” (3)
More Good News About Its Effects On the Brain
As we know, stress can lead to a plethora of negative cognitive effects and even more serious conditions. Ashwagandha’s stress relieving properties may also benefit the brain. As Dr. Mercola acknowledges:
“Ashwagandha’s sedative properties may be involved in brain-boosting powers, as relieving stress and sleeping troubles may in turn benefit cognitive function.” (4)
It’s just a brilliant little herb and a great friend for better brain function. Ongoing research continues to discover more about its wide-ranging benefits and its remarkable restorative and energizing effects.
